Introducing Moses! in Kalamazoo, Michigan

This young, male,  German Shepherd mix is full of life. He has all the qualities most people look for in a Best Friend. Moses is not only beautiful but he is very playful, curious & smart which makes him a great candidate for some basic training. Even though Moses is not a little puppy his age still says he is one. We sometimes don`t receive background info on dog`s who come to our shelter, but in the beginning Moses showed some signs that he may have only been played with using "bodily" play instead of toys. A volunteer has taken Moses for 3 visits to a home where the 2 of them could begin changing this behavior. The volunteer has reported that during all 3 visits Moses seems to respond very well to calmness including a calm voice. During the 1st visit and the 2 after, the volunteer was able to lay down on the floor with Moses next to her & the only physical behavior Moses has shown is trying to snuggle closer. Moses will continue these visits in the hope he learns that toys are to play with and so far he has gotten toys from the toy basket taking them to the dog bed with him! Moses has never had an accident in his 3 visits nor has he attempted to grab the food on the volunteers lap while only 2 feet away. At first Moses found comfort several times on the couch but his last visit trying only twice he got down when asked to. Moses loves his daily walks at the shelter and is paired up with other chosen dogs to play with. Moses rides excellent in a car staying in the back seat & never making a sound while the volunteer is outside the car or going inside someplace. What Moses needs is someone who has the time & patience to work with him on being calm when it`s necessary but also someone who will make sure he gets the exercise & playtime he so loves. Moses has been neutered, is UTD on all shots, has been heart worm tested (neg) & is receiving monthly heart worm treatment yr. round.
