Meet Schuster & Summer! in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Canine Safe Harbor would like you to meet Schuster & Summer! Schuster is a young male Chihuahua mix. This little guy will put a grin on everyones face just by perking up his ears! He loves his daily walks & is satisfied with any attention he can get without asking for more.  When Schuster was taken to a home for a "day away" from shelter life he made a great traveling companion and proved how well he behaves in a home enviornment. He enjoyed his walk around the farm checking out the new surroundings & getting a good look at horses & chickens. When inside the house Schuster made the rounds from room to room and in no time felt comfortable enough to find a place to take a nap. Schuster & Summer were recently chosen to share living quarters at the shelter and both made great roomates as long as Schuster had his nylabone at his side. When it`s time to say "Goodnight" both Schuster & Summer would  curl up making it hard to tell where 1 dog started & the other ended. Summer is an adult female Terrier mix. This little girl will melt any heart the moment you look at her darling face! It always amazes us how different a dog can & will behave in a shelter setting. To see the true nature of a shelter dog all you have to do is walk them outside the door. Summer is a perfect example of a dog who appears "not interested" or "standoffish" when surrounded by the hustle & bustle of shelter life. When a volunteer took Summer for her "day away" to the same farm as Schuster visited the volunteer was amazed & happy to learn that in a home, Summer proved she was not "standoffish" at all! Summer wasted no time trying to make friends with a senior Beagle & 4 adult cats. Summer made herself right at home infront of the glass sliding door watching the horses & all the outdoor activity. After a couple of hours of chasing, playing & getting the attention of 3 people Summer made herself comfy enough to take a snooze.  Both Summer & Schuster have been spayed/neutered, are receiving monthly heart worm medication & are up to date on all shots. Both dogs are just the right size for apartment dwellers & both would be a great addition to any new home.
